College basketball roundup: Diggins leads Irish women past Duke

NORFOLK, Va. — Skylar Diggins scored 24 points, and Notre Dame rallied to beat Duke, 87-76, on Tuesday night to earn its third consecutive trip to the women’s Final Four.

The Fighting Irish (35-1) won a school-record 30th consecutive game, earning a fourth meeting with Connecticut this season. Notre Dame has beaten UConn in the past two Final Fours.

Tricia Liston led Duke (33-3) with 19 points.

Louisville 86, Tennessee 78: At Oklahoma City, Shoni Schimmel scored 24 points for the fifth-seeded Cardinals (28-8), who built a 20-point lead and withstood a rally by the Lady Vols (27-8).

NIT semifinals

Baylor 76, BYU 70: Pierre Jackson had 24 points and 10 assists to help lift Baylor (22-14) into the NIT title game for the second time in five years. Tyler Haws scored 25 points for the Cougars (24-12).

Iowa 71, Maryland 60: Devyn Marble had 21 points and nine rebounds to help Iowa (25-12) reach the NIT championship for the first time. Alex Len had 16 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots for Maryland (25-13).

Brittney Griner, Baylor’s 6-foot-8 star senior, was a unanimous selection to the Associated Press’ All-America team. Griner, who is on the squad for the third time, was joined on the squad by Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins, Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike, Delaware’s Elena Delle Donne and Baylor teammate Odyssey Sims. … Southern California hired Andy Enfield as men’s coach after he took Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. He has been one of the most talked-about coaches since making the Eagles the first No. 15 seed to reach the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. Enfield, 43, was 41-28 in two seasons at FGCU in Ft. Myers, Fla. … Texas Tech introduced Tubby Smith as its new coach. Smith, fired by Minnesota last week, takes over a program that went 19-43 the past two seasons. … Pittsburgh junior guard Trey Zeigler is transferring — again. He averaged 4.4 points and two rebounds in 31 games for the Panthers this season after transferring from Central Michigan. Zeigler received a waiver from the NCAA to play right away at Pitt after his father, Ernie Zeigler, was fired as Central Michigan coach at the end of the 2011-12 season.
